i wanted to do the white shag rug like in the picture, but im doubting it now because of the tan carpets and walls in the apartment we are getting. what color area rug would look best with this furniture set?
I would opt for a multi color rug that contains tan, white and some black along with a bit of a bold accent color that you like.
Or go simple and tie the room together with a beautiful animal print (zebra or leopard) rug.
There are some very sublte colored animal print rugs that blend nicely with the room and don’t overpower it.

Help! Decorating Dilemma?
Am redecorating our flat, (we rent) landlord said I could pick out any color I want, now she got burned by her sister on a bunch of chocolate brown colored carpet. So if I want carpet thats what I’m getting. My original idea was to go with lt sage on the walls, some kind of tan or beige carpet lt bl trim in the living room and a gold color trim in dining room (rooms flow together. I have big med blue area rug and new blue and white curtains in there in the dining room I have big brick red area rug and creme colored curtains. So what new color scheme would be good so everything comes together. It is a very small space so I cant do any drk colors, want it to feel light and airy, and would like to stay away from browns and beiges but I dont know if I will be able Any suggestions? Also the wood floors look like crap so not an option.
If your carpet is going to be chocolate brown I would suggest a tourquiose colour for the walls. It is a very in colour right now and looks great with choc. brown.

what accent color would work best with dark brown leather furniture and dk brwn floors?
i need new curtains, throw pillows, and an area rug. can’t decide on a color though. right now everything is earthy and neutral. we have a dk green olive sofa and loveseat and tan/beige curtains. in a week our new furniture is coming, it’s a dramatic change. dk brown leather modern sectional and reclyner.
i was thinking red for a splash of bold color, or pale blue i like the way the pale blue and dk brwn compliment eachother. my husband wants to stay with earth tones and neutrals. he is leaning toward an olive green (like our current sofa).
I would agree with your husband — brown is a warm tone so other warm tones would go best with it. Think gold, greens, yellows, red (but like an orange red), other autumnal colors. If you’re wanting to do blue, use a warm blue like teal (blue + green) or turquoise (blue + yellow).
