What would be good to cover basement block walls if you’re unable to transport long pieces of materials?

I have a full basement in a 60-yr-old brick house that is very sturdily built. The walls down there are cement block, and the area is well waterproofed, no moisture or cracking of block issues. I want to make one small area at the bottom of the stairs into a playroom for my kids, using minimal materials until we’re ready to finiish the whole basement completely. They want a retro 70′s theme. There are two high windows, and the space is about 12′ square. I’m planning to just put a thick remnant rug onto the floor for now, but also need to create some sort of easily movable (possibly suspended) divider between the space and my laundry space nearby. Any suggestions? I was thinking about just some curtains or drapes, but maybe something else would work and look better. As for the walls, should I just paint them and cover with lots of posters? If I do paint, is a special type recommended for such applications? My objective is to make it a bright and inviting space on a shoestring budget.

we did they same thing when i was younger to my dads house…..we painted the walls…..took masking tape and taped off lines and designes and it turned out great….u can do some wall hangings….shoot, pop up a strobe light and a disco ball and ur there….

How to Pick your Carpet

Generally a more formal setting, elegant Saxony plush or textured plush works well in this area. Depending on how often you use the room you can purchase any high-performance carpet. Clean-ability and stain resistance are important if this area is used frequently.
Dining Room:
Stain conflict and clean-ability are imperative factors wherever food and drink are common. Select a carpet with soil-hiding features and easy maintenance.
Family Room:
Dense carpeting with soil and stain resistance are ideal for multipurpose rooms. Consider patterns, multicolored tweeds and berbers
Bedrooms:
Generally low-traffic areas, durability may not be critical. Your imagination can run free – look for delicate colors and comfort.
Kids’ Rooms:

Painting a funky room– with funky furniture… HELP!?

My husband bought these HUGE Bretz Brothers couches from Germany… theyre very expensive or I’d put them on the driveway with a free sign….The couch is HUGE, BRIGHT blue with people shaped pillows in different bright colors and the chair is HUGE and BRIGHT RED …. wow, the furniture sounds interesting but yeah…BOLD, which makes for a tough wall color IMHO.

White would be my first guess, but if you are wanting some shade of color, then look at very very very pale gray’s. Such as Sherwin Williams Eider White or Snowfall. Gray’s are netural and will compliment the black accessories. I really think that adding another color would be a no-no, but it’s your house.
