Explain why it makes sense to multiply 4 x 6 to determine the area of a 4-ft-by-6-ft rug in square feet.

A 4 x 6 ft rug has 4 rows of 6 1-foot square squares for a total of 24 of those squares. consequently 6 x 4 gives he number of square feet that the rug contains.
