What to come across for in a Carpet
While color and price are crucial factors when shopping for carpet, the right color at the lowest price does not necessarily signify the best value.
Performance value, the way the carpet actually performs when it is on your floor, should be your primary consideration. It’s not easy to predict how well a carpet will perform in your home. The better the fiber and the denser that it’s packed, the better the carpet will perform. Low quality carpet is easy to spot – it’s thin and lightweight. A better indication of a product’s performance value can be found in the manufacturer’s warranty. Practically any carpet looks good when it’s first installed, but the longer it stays looking good, the greater its real value.
How to Pick your Carpet
As your plans develop, you’ll collect fabric swatches, paint chips, photo examples from design magazines, and other helpful tools. Be sure to bring these with you when you shop – and always bring a sketch of your room’s floor plan.
Beware of bargain.
Most retailers offer legitimate sales at various times. However, beware of unbelievable and unreasonable bargains and advertising claims. Cheap carpet that wears out quickly can prove to be more costly in the long run. Remember, you get what you pay for.
Consider the cost per year.
With any long term investment the true cost of the carpet must reflect its length of satisfactory service. Living Room:
Generally a more formal setting, elegant Saxony plush or textured plush works well in this area. Depending on how often you use the room you can purchase any high-performance carpet. Clean-ability and stain resistance are important if this area is used frequently.
Dining Room:
Stain conflict and clean-ability are imperative factors wherever food and drink are common. Select a carpet with soil-hiding features and easy maintenance.
Family Room:
Dense carpeting with soil and stain resistance are ideal for multipurpose rooms. Consider patterns, multicolored tweeds and berbers
Bedrooms:
Generally low-traffic areas, durability may not be critical. Your imagination can run free – look for delicate colors and comfort.
Kids’ Rooms:
Look for a durable, easy to clean carpet with good soil hiding capabilities
Kitchen:

Does anyone know how to make a home-made carpet cleaning solution for a carpet cleaning machine?
I have a Bissell Easy Steamer and would like to know if I can make a home-made solution to clean my carpets. I am hoping for a strong yet gentle solution that will not damage carpet, yet clean dingy areas. My carpet is a dark grey low-pile and my area rug is an off-white medium pile.
Simply use vinegar. I use about 2 cups in a gallon of very hot water and it works wonderfully. It neutralizes the pet smell also. It will smell like vinegar until it dries, but after dry, no smell remains. If that smell offends you, also I have heard that one scoop of OxiClean, one cup of generic Fabreeze, and the recommended hot water works well. You can look on this site for more suggestions. http://www.stretcher.com/stories/03/03aug04b.cfm ,,, Also be aware that using any detergent will make the dirt stick to it and so your carpet will get dirty faster. (I was told this by a commercial carpet cleaning service). They said it is virtually impossible to get all detergent from your carpet when cleaning, and that the detergent will attract dirt and hold it like a magnet.

why is my puppy suddenly pooping on the rug?
I have a 6mn old shih stzu tibetan spanial mix. We live in a townhouse with no enclosed yard, so I trained her at 2 months old to use a pee pee pad. She picked up on this great and used it every single time. Even when we go to someones house I will show her the pee pee pad, and she knows to use it. Impressive I thought. In the last few days she has pooped and peed in the hallway upstairs. Right in front of us. I immediatley and sternly reprimand her, than put her in the crate. Clean and “deodorize” the area with the pet spray, but she just did it again. There has been no major changes in the routines of our house. We give her lots of love and attention. Can anyone give me some insight as to why she might be suddenly being a defiant b#*ch, how I should reprimand her properly and what to do to get her to stop???? Thanks….
Try removing the rug. The pup might think that she can pee on the carpet because it is kind of like a puppy pad. Anyway keep a close eye on her and try to catch her in the act. No no no usually works, then show her the puppy pad. It can be a annoying process but keep at it, and it will work!
